Few Haikus On Tic


Here's a few things I've written, from spring 2014 to winter 2015, mostly grim, all haikus, titles of varying levels of annoying stupidity. Have a look, feedback is welcome.

Failure, high definition,

Apathy Central,
Intellectual sweatshop,
Phone slowly dying

A Game of Thrones or a game of Kings?

Single serving friends,
Band-aid for isolation,
Thirteen bad choices

Obligatory White Poet Poem Mentioning Cigarettes

To keep from drowning,
Replace the water with smoke,
Live now, die later.

“Fine, Ok, Alri, Great”

You the architect,

Me the simple bricklayer,
Walls between us rise

Lying In Bed Listening To Elliott Smith Or Joy Division

Past, momentary,
Tomorrow lies years away,
The next hour, further.

In order to properly convey my love of hard-hitting, abrasive, underground music, I’d need a far larger word count and the ability to use hyperlinks in this piece. Instead, I chose a particular album that was released last year, Svalbard’s It’s Hard To Have Hope . It stands up, not only as the band’s finest moment to date, a fact recognised by many of the scene’s major media outlets, but as a shining example of what hardcore can do and be at its very best. For a genre that’s often pigeonholed as being formulaic and one-dimensional, hardcore has managed to weave a number of different elements and approaches into its tapestry. Svalbard are no slouches in this department. Their approach is a really interesting mix of the beautiful melodies and rich soundscapes of the recent wave of post-rock leaning black metal bands, but underpinned by a very straightforward pummelling rhythm section, keeping things grounded and the attack very in-your-face. Placebo: A Discography Guide

Ah yes, Placebo. Of all the bands to emerge from the British rock scene in the 1990s, they’re one of the most unique and indeed long lasting. Their sound was unlike the Blur and Oasis acolytes surrounding them, combining the abrasion of the American underground with a European sophistication. The secret ingredient is a gritty, darkly sexual touch that had a long and storied history in British music, from glam rock to Soft Cell and Depeche Mode but was almost forgotten at that stage. They’ve 7 studio albums recorded, covering a variety of sounds and styles, but still unmistakably them. Though their influence is widely observable, from the dramatics of the goth leaning punk of AFI and My Chemical Romance to a number of the post punk revival acts, there is still no band out there quite like them. Few Haikus On Tic 6: A Hiatus Ends

Well, we're back at it again, writing poems and uploading them here.Before I'd have posted them to my Instagram and Twitter, both @scatterdebris for anyone interested in that, now I'm compiling my recent haikus to this here blog.
